- Q: Can Meals on Wheels of Western Broome (MOWWB) help me?
- A: Elderly, convalescent and handicapped persons are eligible for this service. Meals on Wheels of Western Broome volunteers can deliver hot and cold meals to you each weekday.

- Q: Do I live in the Meals on Wheels of Western Broome service area?
- A: Meals on Wheels of Western Broome (MOWWB) serves people who live in Endicott, Endwell, Johnson City, Vestal and Maine. (The Office for Aging administers the program for Eastern Broome County)

- Q: Do I qualify to get Meals on Wheels?
- A: MOWWB is an independent nonprofit organization. Anyone adult who is physically unable to shop or prepare meals and has no one who can do that for them regularly may qualify for service. Non-elderly adults may be asked for a doctor’s referral for services.

- Q: Do I have to have "low income" to get MOWWB?
- A: Meal service is available to any handicapped, homebound or convalescent adult. Clients of MOWWB are charged a fee. The fee is half of what it costs the organization to prepare the meal.

- Q: How many meals are available?
- A: One or two meals (Hot/Cold) are available each weekday. The hot meal is intended for noontime use. It includes protein, vegetable, starch, side salad (vegetable or fruit) and beverage. The cold meal (sandwich, salad, desert & beverage) is intended for the evening meal. Weekend meals are available and consist of a frozen meal and sandwich meal for each day. (These meals are delivered on Friday with Friday meals.)

- Q: Can MOWWB help with special diets?
- A: The MOWWB kitchen staff is knowledgeable of most medically prescribed dietary needs. They may include: diabetic, bland low fat/salt, lactose free, soft, grind and puree.

- Q: What if there are particular foods on the menu I won't eat?
- A: MOWWB can accommodate some food preferences if advised beforehand. You will need to have extra food on hand to use if you receive something you do not like.

- Q: Do I have to take meal service every day? What if I have an appointment and will not be home at delivery time?
- A: You may receive meals as few as 3 days a week. Call the day before or before 9:00 AM the day of to cancel if you will not be home at delivery time. Volunteers are instructed not to leave meals. Weekend cancellations must be done by Thursday morning prior to the weekend.

- Q: How much do the meals cost and how do I pay ?
- A: The main hot meal cost $4.00 the cold bag lunch costs $2.00. (Total is $6.00) Bills are sent to the client in your paper bag at the end of the month (billing for that month). Bills may be mailed to a third party or whoever takes care of bill for the client. (Food Stamps, VISA or MasterCard accepted) Payment may be mailed to 705 West Main Street , Endicott, NY 13760.

- Q: When are meals delivered and how do they get to my house?
- A: Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. You must be home to receive meals. Volunteers deliver the meals using their own vehicles. Please be ready to accept your meal during this time. If the Volunteer does not get an answer to the door the meal may be returned to the office. The office staff will contact the client or the emergency person listed on the file. If there is no contact at this point, "911" may be called. This way all concerned will know that the client is safe and accounted for.

- Q: How do I get meals on holidays or in bad winter weather?
- A: MOWWB is closed New Year Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day (Thursday& Friday) and Christmas Day. Meals for holiday are ordered prior to the holiday and delivered the previous day. Emergency Meal Packs are available upon request for the winter season. These meal packs are shelf safe (and frozen) and are to be held in reserve should meal delivery have to be canceled. MOWWB may cancel delivery if the weather is hazardous. Local radio and TV stations will announce closings. (Listen for "Meals on Wheels on Western Broome" - not to be confused with the Office for Aging or Binghamton Meals on Wheels.)

- Q: How do I get started?
- A: MOWWB is located in the old Our Lady of Good Counsel School, at 705 West Main Street (across from En-Joie Golf Course). If you have any other questions or want to start meal delivery call the office at 754-7856. Office hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. The office staff will take your information to schedule your first meal delivery.
New clients are asked to accept 5 days of meal deliveries before canceling meal service.
